We are smack, bang, in the middle of Fingal Enterprise Week, 2018. There is a vast range of activities taking place during the week to appeal to business owners and entrepreneurs at all stages of their business journey.
However, I have to be honest and say that I simply can’t wait for Friday morning and the inaugural Ethnic Entrepreneur Expo which will be held in the very accessible Crowne Plaza Hotel in Blanchardstown. We are now in the final stages, where we are all ready to go and the anticipation is building amongst the team. As it is the first event of its kind, there were naturally a lot of unknowns during the planning of the event. We have had an incredible response so far and so have moved to a bigger conference room and have increased catering. It’s absolutely wonderful!
As a diversity and inclusion consultant, I am so excited about this event which will give small and medium business owners from across the Fingal area to meet, network, and explore options available to them in their local area. Looking at those who have registered already, I am impressed by the diversity of attendees. We will have people attending from public sector agencies, corporate bodies, experienced entrepreneurs, aspiring entrepreneurs and ethnic entrepreneurs from all walks of life.
Running a business is hard work. We all know and appreciate that. But how can we best equip ourselves to succeed in business and make the process easier and more enjoyable along the way? As a business owner, I know that meeting with others who are both at the same stage in business or ahead of me has helped immensely. I have been able to share concerns, talk through issues and learn about opportunities and supports that I may otherwise not have known existed.
It’s not all about the benefit to me though, I have been able to meet with people who are just exploring going into business, who are now where I was some years ago. It’s so great to meet these people and share my own experiences and pass on my knowledge to help them succeed.
One of the key elements on Friday morning will be a panel discussion to explore challenges in business. Our panel, which will be comprised of ethnic entrepreneurs, will discuss the real-life issues they have faced in operating their business in Ireland today – and most importantly, share the solutions they have discovered to overcome such difficulties. This will be a most interesting discussion, which I am confident will benefit all in attendance.
If you are a business owner or entrepreneur from an ethnic minority, or you are in business and would like to connect with business owners of various ethnicities, I urge you to set aside some time on Friday morning to join us. I know it is going to be an incredibly insightful and fun morning. You will come away with renewed energy to pour into your business, new contacts, and who knows, maybe even a new ideal client!
See you then,
